The latest ERP standard update for EU light source and controller products

On February 26, 2021, the European Union officially issued two new directives (EU) 2021/341 and (EU) 2021/340, which respectively address the original directive (EU) 2019/2020 light source and stand-alone control device ecological design requirements and (EU) The 2019/2015 energy efficiency label requirements for light sources have been revised accordingly, which is the first major update since the release of the new version of ERP. In addition to some adjustments to the wording and reference standards, it also contains the following important updates.

1
New clause: If the same product is not put on the market before 2021-07-01, then between 2021-07-01 and 2021-08-31, products that meet the requirements of the new version of the ERP Directive (EU) 2019/2020, It is deemed to meet the requirements of the old version of the ERP Directive (EC) No 244/2009, (EC) No 245/2009 and (EU) No 1194/2012.
2
New clause: For the products that have been put on the market, corresponding management and control of hardware and software upgrades are made.

-Any hardware and software upgrades must not reduce the energy efficiency of the product
-Any software upgrade needs to ensure that the product still meets the requirements of the ERP directive
-Refusing software upgrades shall not affect the original performance of the product
3
Amend the original exempt products:

-Radiology and nuclear medicine facilities
-Industrial or professional electric heating equipment
-Film and television studios, studios, stage lighting

New exempt products:

-Incandescent lamp for infrared heating
4
Some product test requirements have been changed: the light sources used in the following products will no longer need to meet the requirements of ANNEX II for luminous flux maintenance rate and survival rate; the outer packaging and technical documents no longer need to reflect the life, luminous flux maintenance factor, Survival factor and other information.

-Refrigerator
- dishwasher
-Washing machine / washer-dryer
- Dryer
5
Revised the stroboscopic effect limits of LED and OLED products that operate in the main power supply.
Before revision
After revision
SVM≤0.4
Except for HID with effective luminous flux greater than 4klm, or used in outdoor environment, industrial environment or other environments when the light source standard allows the color rendering index to be less than 80
SVM≤0.9
SVM≤0.4 (after September 1, 2024)
Except for HID with effective luminous flux greater than 4klm, or used in outdoor environment, industrial environment or other environments when the light source standard allows the color rendering index to be less than 80

(EU) 2021/340
1
Corrected the energy efficiency rating label:

-Fixed the wrong size of the original effect grade label
Amended from "at least 36mm x 75mm" to at least "36mm x 72mm"
-Added the requirements for the label frame of the energy efficiency rating
2
Change of registration information:

-New lamp head / connection port type
-The energy consumption value (kWh/1000h) has been changed to round up
-Adjusted the input format of color temperature
3
New information in the technical file:

-Peak intensity of directional lights
-R9 value for LED and OLED products
-Survival factor of LED and OLED products
-Luminous flux maintenance factor of LED and OLED products
-Life expectancy of LED and OLED products (L70B50)
4
Changes to the market spot check requirements:

-If the declared value of the PST short-term flicker index and SVM stroboscopic effect is less than or equal to 1.0, the verification tolerance range is changed from "the actual measured value does not exceed 10% of the declared value" to "the actual measured value does not exceed the declared value + 0.1"
-Removed the requirements for FL and HID survival rate and luminous flux maintenance rate
